Newwwww Zealand.

My First Week!

We finally made it to New Zealand! For the most part, all of our flights went rather smooth. When we flew into Queenstown, the plane somewhat flew around like a feather over-top of the mountains. Eeeek! However, we made it safely. :) Right from the start, the group and I hit it off! I really get along with the bunch and it seems like this will be an enjoyable trip. The girls and I have our room all set up and organized for the 3 of us.....and I’m sure Ian is enjoying his own room. (Lucky.) As soon as we got to Alexandra, our principal, Gary, showed us around the town; it is roughly the size of Ida Grove! Next, he took us to the Terrace School so we could meet our cooperating teachers. I am working with Glenis and Karen in the 5-year-old classroom! Each of the kiddos in New Zealand start school on their 5th birthday! With only 7 weeks left of the school year, we will have a new student starting this coming Tuesday! Anyway, on Monday evening I was the first one to drive the van. With everything being backwards.......it was a touch tricky at first! No worries! We made it home safe and sound. :)
Our first day at school was wonderful because we had such a warm welcoming from the students and staff. It was amazing to hear the kids sing to us, along with hearing Gary's mihi. I was able to audio record part of the ceremony on my iPad, so hopefully I can upload it to the blog! After the ceremony, we all went to our classrooms and hung out for a couple of hours. Then we came home, took a nap, and all eventually made it out for a 4-5 mile hike through the mountains. Wednesday evening, the gang and I went out to Monteith’s pub and eatery. It was fantastic! Over the weekend, I believe we are going to Doubtful Sounds. We have a 3-day weekend, which is perfect for our trip! On the way home from Doubtful sounds, we are planning on hitting up Queenstown. Wish us luck!

P.S. I promise to upload pictures from the weekend. Be ready! :)
